Critic-Score Threshold Model

Aggregate critic scores start with a small number of festival or embargo-lift reviews and converge as the full set lands, and the early sample is a biased but informative predictor of the final number. Markets asking whether a film clears a score threshold reprice violently on the first few reviews. You model the convergence from partial samples, including which outlets historically score above or below the eventual average, and fade the overreaction.

What you need to run it

  • Review-by-review ingestion with per-outlet historical scoring bias
  • Convergence model estimating the final aggregate from a partial sample
  • Embargo-calendar tracking so you know when the sample will jump

Where this applies

Markets on Polymarket where critic-score threshold model is the natural play:

  • Will the film score above 90% on Rotten Tomatoes?
  • Will the series hold a Metacritic score above 75 at launch?
  • Will the sequel be rated worse than the original?
