Regional Strength & Cross-Region Seeding Priors

Teams mostly play inside their own region, so their records are not directly comparable — a dominant record in a weak region means less than a middling one in a strong one. International events are the only place the regions meet, and those results give you a conversion factor between them. You maintain regional strength ratings from cross-region history and trade the early rounds of international events, where the crowd is pricing domestic records at face value.

What you need to run it

  • Cross-region result history sufficient to estimate relative regional strength
  • Rating system that adjusts domestic records by their region's conversion factor
  • Awareness of roster and format changes that reset a region's strength

Where this applies

Markets on Polymarket where regional strength & cross-region seeding priors is the natural play:

  • Will the North American team advance from groups?
  • Will a Chinese team reach the semi-finals?
  • Will the European seed beat the Korean seed?
